Law professor named co-chair of American Bar Association committee
Elena Helmer, Ohio Northern University assistant professor of law and assistant director of the Democratic Governance and Rule of Law program, has been appointed co-chair of the American Bar Association Section of International Law International Anticorruption Committee.
The American Bar Association (ABA) is the largest voluntary professional membership organization in the world. The ABA works to improve the administration of justice, promotes programs that assist lawyers and judges in their work, accredits law schools, provides continuing legal education, and works to build public understanding around the world of the importance of the rule of law.
With more than 450 members in more than 20 countries, the International Anticorruption Committee facilitates efforts to deter corrupt practices and promote transparency across industries, organizations and countries through the discussion and examination of the current international anticorruption regime.
It promotes dialogue and the exchange of ideas around global anticorruption and anti-bribery laws, regulations and initiatives via its members and in partnering with other organizations and institutions dedicated to promoting transparency, the rule of law, and compliance with and enforcement of anticorruption laws. The ABA Section of International Law, which has more than 23,000 members in 90 countries, is the leader in the development of policy in the international arena, the promotion of the rule of law and the education of international law practitioners.
At ONU’s Pettit College of Law, Helmer specializes in the areas of anticorruption, private international law and dispute resolution. She graduated from Kazakh State University School of Law and Yale Law School.
