ONU men's soccer drops a tough one to Ohio Wesleyan

By Andrew Korba

The No. 8 Ohio Northern men's soccer dropped a tough 2-0 contest to No. 21 Ohio Wesleyan Wednesday night at Roy Rike Field.

The Polar Bears fall to 7-2-0 while the Battling Bishops improve to 6-1-1.

Ohio Wesleyan jumped on the board in the 11th minute when Colton Bloecher put the ball in the net.

The Battling Bishops extended their lead to 2-0 on a goal by Matt Shadoan in the 56th minute.

It appeared ONU got on the board in the 66th minute when senior Cameron Johnson put the ball in the net.

But the Polar Bears were whistled for offsides and the goal was waved off.

Johnson would have another chance in the 77th minute when he had an open net, but his shot was blocked by the Ohio Wesleyan defense.

Again, Johnson would have a chance to score in the 82nd minute but his shot hit the crossbar.

"Tonight's match was a great test for our guys before we get to the OAC portion of our season," said head coach Brent Ridenour. "It is always great to play these guys. It's an NCAA type atmosphere and shows us what we need to work on."

Paul Hendriks made one save for Ohio Wesleyan and improves to 6-1-1.

Senior Mac Church (7-2-0) made three saves for ONU.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot ONU by a 16-14 margin.

OWU fired five shots on goal compared to just one for the Polar Bears.

Ohio Northern will be in action again on Saturday when they host Thomas More (Ky.) at 1 pm.
