It's Wittenberg over 'Bears

The Ohio Northern women's soccer team wrapped up its 2012 non-conference schedule on Thursday with a 1-0 loss to Wittenberg at the ONU Soccer Field.

The Polar Bears fall to 6-4-3 on the season, while the Tigers are now 7-3-2.

The lone goal in the contest came with 37:17 gone in the first half when Kaylee Gialamas scored on a rebound of a shot put up by teammate Grace Winzeler.

Winzeler's shot bounced off the cross bar on a breakaway to set up the goal.

In the second half both teams played very well but neither was able to put the ball in the net.

Senior goalie Erin Waehner started the game in goal for Ohio Northern and played 29 minutes. Junior goalie Kimmy Conner replaced Waehner in net and recorded one save and one goal against in her 30 minutes. Freshman Emily Brodict spent the last 30 minutes in the goal.

Melissa Gartner played the full time in the goal for Wittenberg making three saves during the game.

Northern put up 17 shots compared to 4 for Wittenberg. The Polar Bears also had the advantage on corner kicks, 7-6.

The Polar Bears will face off against Marietta in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest on Saturday at 3:30 pm at the ONU Soccer Field.
