Tokar, Batman win Special Awards as seven named All-OAC in Women's Soccer

Senior Tara Tokar was named OAC Midfielder of the Year, head coach Mark Batman was voted OAC Coach of the Year and seven players were named All-OAC in women's soccer in voting conducted by the league's 10 head coaches.

Senior defender Paige Garber, sophomore forward Kristina Klusek and Tokar all were named First Team All-OAC.

Senior goalie Erin Waehner, junior midfielder Abbie Schauble and junior defenseman Abby Vargo were each voted Second Team All-OAC.

Junior forward Sami Atkinson was also named Honorable Mention All-OAC.

This is the third time Tokar has been named First Team All-OAC and first time she has been named OAC Midfielder of the Year.

For her career, Tokar has scored 12 goals and registered six assists.

Batman was voted OAC Coach of the Year for the second time.

He helped guide Northern to a 13-4-4 record and and 5-3-1 mark in OAC play.

In addition, he led the Polar Bears to their first OAC Tournament Championship and third apperance in the NCAA Tournament.

Garber was named First Team All-OAC for the first time and All-OAC for the second time.

Garber has two assists on the season and helped anchor a defense that gave up just 14 goals this season.

Klusek was voted First Team All-OAC for the first time and All-OAC for the second time.

She led the team in goals, assists and points with 14, eight and 36 respectively.

Schauble earns her second straight Second Team All-OAC nod.

She scored both of her goals this season in the OAC Tournament Quarterfinals, as ONU defeated Wilmington 2-0.

Vargo earned her first All-OAC selection.

Vargo was a key contributer on the Polar Bear defense all season.

Waehner was named Second Team All-OAC for the first time and earned her third All-OAC selection.

Waehner has 48 saves on the season and has nine shutouts.

She ranks fourth all-time with 20 career shutouts and seventh with 167 saves.

Atkinson earned her third consecutive All-OAC selection.

She has scored four goals and registered three assists on the season.

For her career, Atkinson ranks tenth all-time with 27 goals.

Ohio Northern will return to the field on Saturday when they face off against RIT (N.Y.) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at 1:30 pm in Pittsburgh, Pa.
