Samuel Risner was retired from Erie Railroad

Samuel Risner, age 89 died Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 3:55 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.

He was born on March 24, 1924 in Gullet, KY to Jack and Delli (Montgomery) Risner who preceded him in death. On June 27, 1944 he married Arlene Botkin and she died on December 16, 1992.

Samuel worked for 29 years for the Erie Railroad. He was a member of the Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God, Alger.

Surviving are two sons: Ron (Trina) Risner of Lima and Jack (Bernie) Risner of Columbus; a daughter, Patsy (Anthony) Brand of Alger; a son-in-law, Brian Thompson of Roundhead; eight grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandson; six sisters: Arizona Collingsworth of Alger, Mint Bays of Florida, Martha Builderback of Colorado, Bessie Vincent of Ada, Lydia Scott of Lakeview and Nancy McBride of Alger.

He was preceded in death by two daughters: Joyce Cook Friesner and Rita Thompson; five sisters: Pat Holbrook and four infant sisters; one brother Roy Risner.

A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 4, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger with Pastor Steve Holbrook officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Friends may call from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger and until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
