Northern University students honored with Dankook Award

Ohio Northern University presented Dankook Awards to Jayce Born, a senior criminal justice major from Lancaster, Ohio, and Eric Ambos, a senior business management major from Botkins, Ohio, at ONU’s Honors Day on April 26.

Presented since 1974, the Dankook Award is an annual reciprocal award exchanged between Dankook University in South Korea and Ohio Northern University. The award recognizes students with outstanding records in academics, student leadership, co-curricular activities and service.

The selection process begins when each ONU undergraduate dean nominates two students to receive the award. Next, ONU’s vice president of academic affairs selects two students from this pool of eight and sends their names to the University president for approval. Finally, the two names are sent to Dankook University.

A recipient of the arts and science scholarship and a member of the Honors program, Born will graduate this May with her Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice and psychology. Born is a member of the Mortar Board National Honor, Phi Kappa Phi (the national honor society) and Psi Chi (the national psychology honor society). Born also is a member of Phi Alpha Delta, the pre-law fraternity, for which she served as treasurer, vice president and president. Outside the classroom, Born has been a varsity volleyball player, a member of the ONU Student Athletic Advisory Committee and Good News Bears, and a tutor for the ONU Prison Management System.

Ambos, who will graduate this May from the Dicke College of Business Administration with a Bachelor of Science in management, serves on the Dean’s Advisory Council and is currently vice president. Ambos served as the president of the University’s Student Senate for two terms and, prior to becoming president, served as the senate’s secretary of finance. He is a member of the ONU President’s Club and the host of the show “Campus Connections.” Ambos plans to attend ONU’s Pettit College of Law to pursue his goal of becoming a practicing attorney.
