ONU business student member of team that captures first in national competition

Ohio Northern University Dicke College of Business Administration student Andria Beehler-Evans, a senior accounting major from Bellefontaine, Ohio, was a member of a four-person team that took top honors in the “Project Run With It” competition at the 2014 Beta Alpha Psi (BAΨ) conference held in Atlanta, Ga. on Aug. 6-9.

“Project Run With It” is an opportunity for BAΨ members from schools around the world to work together to solve a real client issue for a not-for-profit organization. A total of 72 BAΨ student representatives competed and comprised 18 teams of four members.

Representing ONU, Beehler-Evans led a four-person team, comprised of students from Southern Illinois, Brigham Young University and Marshall, that worked together to provide a comprehensive solution to an Atlanta not-for-profit organization, Jewish Family & Career Services (JF&CS). All groups in the competition were given 24 hours to meet with the client and create a solution and a presentation for a panel of judges, which included the chief financial officers from the JF&CS, accounting faculty members and a representative from the CPA firm Moss Adams LLP.

Fellow ONU students Ryan Abraham, a 2014 ONU graduate and 2015 ONU Masters in Professional Practice in Accounting (MPPA) candidate from Canfield, Ohio, and Frank Duffy, a senior accounting major from Wooster, Ohio, attended the conference. Matthew Phillips, assistant professor of accounting, and Anita Morgan, associate director of accounting and director of the ONU MPPA program, served as advisors.

“Andria consistently demonstrates the highest of academic achievement, teamwork, and leadership skills,” Phillips said. “Andria again displayed these attributes by leading her team to top honors in the “Project Run With It” competition.  I cannot think of a better student representative of the Dicke College of Business and ONU, and therein more deserving, than Andria Beehler-Evans.”

Founded in 1919, Beta Alpha Psi is an honor organization for financial information students and professionals. There are more than 300 chapters on college and university campuses with more than 300,000 members initiated since BAΨ’s formation. The primary objective of BAΨ is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field.
