15 minutes with Lindsay Walden who plans to be the fifth generation working in her family business someday

15 minutes with Lindsay Walden, Ada High School senior. Note this is our first "15 minutes" interview of the school year. Watch for many more.

What’s your class schedule this year?

I’m taking Communications, Chemistry 1, Calculus, office volunteer, Spanish 4, AP English, Physics and I end the day with a study hall.

Have you made any college plans?
I’d like to attend Ohio Dominican University. You can obtain an MBA in five years there. I want to come home and work for dad’s company, Sheldon Gas Co., and R.H. Sheldon and Sons. It’s in Dunkirk. It celebrated its 100th anniversary this year and in August was honored by the Ohio Gas Association in Columbus. I’ll be the fifth generation to work in the business.

Tell me about your sports participation at Ada High School.
I’m a middle hitter on the volleyball team and am a four-year volleyball starter. I’m a forward on the basketball team and a four-year starter. In track I do the high jump. I was Northwest Conference high jump runner up last season. My highest jump was 5 foot 1 inch.

What was your best-ever volleyball game?
It was last Tuesday against Crestview. I have 12 kills and 8 blocks. It was a huge win for us. Against Cory-Rawson in the first basketball game of the season I had 19 points.

What kind of music do you like?
I have 40 Pandora stations. I listen to everything form rap to ‘60s music. I suppose Drake, a rap artist, is who I have the most music of, including over 20 songs.

Think for a minute about all your possessions. What have you kept that might surprise your friends?
I still have my comforter from when I was 4.

What’s your school locker like?
It’s clean. This is the first year I’ve had a bottom locker.

How about lunch?
Sometimes I pack and sometimes I buy. It all depends upon if I get up in time to pack my lunch.

Homecoming is in late October this year. Are you ready? Tell me about your dress. (Lindsay explained the dress, but wanted to keep some of the information secret.)
It’s purple with sequins from Twirl in Kenton. Last year I was one of five Twirl girls who modeled prom dresses.

How long have you had your ears pierced?
They were a Valentine’s Day present when I was in the first grade. My first earrings were little diamond studs.

If you ever had a tattoo, what would it be?
It would be three black crosses. That would represent my family and my faith.

And the worst grade you ever received.
(Pause) It was a 63 on a pre-calculus quiz. It was a tough quiz, and was a wake-up call to me.

I understand you attended Hardin Northern schools from kindergarten to ninth grade. What was it like moving to Ada as a sophomore?
I remember that on the first day of school. I was really nervous. Then, in my first study hall Jacob Ansley invited me to sit has his table. I’ve always told me that he helped me out on my first day at school.

Do you have any pets?
I have a cat named “Buttons.” He’s white with black and copper spots.

Are you planning any other college visits in addition to Ohio Dominican?
I’ve visited Ohio Northern, Heidelberg and Dayton. I will probably visit a couple other colleges this year.

Thanks for talking with us and good luck this school year.
