"I Dream of all things: Photos by Emily Jay" in ONU Elzay Gallery of Art

The Ohio Northern University gallery program opens its 2013-14 art exhibition and gallery season at the Elzay Gallery of Art with “I Dream of All Things: Photographs by Emily Jay.” The exhibit runs from Sept. 2 to Oct. 10.

Jay’s exhibit explores the relationship between promise, breaking and beauty. It is a photographic exploration of slipping into and out of dreams, as they come to be and as they come to fall apart. Jay’s latest work uses painting, photography and installation as she attempts to catalog remnants of aesthetic experience encountered in the mundane.

Jay is an adjunct instructor in art at ONU. This semester, she is teaching digital photography and visual literacy. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio arts from Ohio Northern in 2010. While a student, Jay was involved in Kappa Pi and the Student Art League. She also was a Shelley C. Petrillo Scholarship recipient. She earned her MFA in painting from Bowling Green State University in 2013.

Admission to the Elzay and Stambaugh galleries is free and open to the public daily from 1 to 4:30 p.m. while school is in session. The Stambaugh Studio Theatre Gallery also is open prior to events held at Ohio Northern’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts.

A reception for the artist is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 3, at 5:30 p.m. during Homecoming weekend.

Operated by the Department of Art & Design, the University’s exhibition program serves as a vital means for engaging the Ohio Northern community and the Northwest Central Ohio region in the visual arts. The gallery season is designed to serve as an educational and cultural resource, to host national and international touring exhibitions, and to host original exhibits distinctly suited to an academic environment.
