Welcome Icon's newest column: Observations, insights and sightings

This is an occasional AdaIcon column of observations, insights, and sightings in the community...informally written, brief, and (hopefully) interesting and readable. Have an idea for an item? Email montysiekerman60@gmail,com.

Monopoly
ReStore has a 1980 Hardin County Monopoly game up for silent auction. Current bid $5. There are two Ada items on the board. Both are still in business 35 years later: Ferguson Insurance and ONU.

Dog Friendly
It was good to hear the city building is "dog friendly."  My furry guy, named Caesar, will be glad to know that he is invited to accompany his owner when he is there in search of village news.

Gus Guthrie of the Ada Flea Market said the Big C was welcome there anytime, but the pooch won't be seeing the inside of The flea market because he doesn't want fleas. Just kidding. Actually, Caesar's long, wagging tail and Gus' crystal vases should not meet.

Word has it that a well-behaved pup was spotted at Viva Maria's. Again, Caesar won't be seeing the inside of the restaurant because he'd beg for food from everyone. However, it is nice to know that dogs seem to be more welcome nowadays.

From Pharmacy to Preaching
Tom Gossel--the highly respected retired pharmacy dean, then Presbyterian pastor, now writer for national journals--was honored with a pharmacy alumni award at ONU. He really enjoyed seeing many former students who returned to campus for the event. His successful teaching and administrative ability led to their professional success, according to their testimonial.
