Hardin Democrats getting ready for county fair

Plans for the Hardin County Fair Booth were finalized at the August meeting of the Democratic Central and Executive Committees.

Members will meet at 10 am. Monday, Sept. 7 to prepare the booth for the opening of the fair the next day. You do not have to be member of the Central or Executive Committees to assist with this effort.

Sign-up sheets for working a three-hour shift during the week will be available. If you believe in the Principles of the Democratic Party and want to volunteer, please come on that Monday or whenever you come to the fair the first time.

The Committees made the initial plans for the Fall Luncheon and Rally to be held Saturday, Oct. 24 at noon at the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church north of Kenton on State Route 68.

Barb McQuown will be preparing the baked chicken breast lunch with all the trimmings. Carry-outs will be available at 11:30 a.m. Tickets will be on sale at the Fair Booth and after that from Central and Executive Committee members. The keynote speaker will be announced as soon as confirmation is received.

Board of Elections Director Sandy Bookmyer and Clerk Stephanie McCullough reported on the candidates who have filed for local offices. They also advised the group that the Electronic Poll Books will be delivered and the staff including the rovers who set up the equipment for all elections will be trained to use this new equipment prior to the end of the month.

Chair Don Traxler reported on the Ohio Democratic County Chairs Association regional meeting he attended at the Lucas County Democrat Headquarters in Toledo. Francis Strickland, wife of Governor Ted Strickland who is running for the United States Senate in the 2016 primary, gave an update on his campaign and how counties can be of help to him.

Two state issues on the November ballot were discussed by representatives of those issues. A round-table discussion of chairs exchanging ideas that work for them during campaigns and at their county fairs was most enlightening.

Resignations of Precinct Representatives Pamala Robinson (Mt. Victory/Ridgeway/Hale) and Stephanie Nichols (Roundhead) were accepted.

The next meeting of these committees will be Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. At Henry's Restaurant. Please note that this is the third Wednesday due to the lateness of the Hardin County Fair.
