Elsie Tressel was the first female sheriff deputy in Hardin County

Elsie Mae Hubbell Tressel died on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at Richland Manor. Elsie was born July 17, 1921, to the late Sam and LaVonne Rowles Hubbell on the family farm in Ada. 

She married Kenneth D. Tressel on March 15, 1941, in Hattiesburg, Miss., while Ken was serving in the Army. They lived in Ada for the next 62 years until Ken died in 2002.  She was at the family home in Ada until October of 2015.   

Elsie attended Klingler School southeast of Ada grades 1-3 and graduated from Ada High in 1938.  She worked at the OK factory, Ohio Northern University, and Hindall Construction before serving 16 years as Hardin County Deputy Sheriff being the first lady deputy in the county. 

She then continued working part-time as a dispatcher for the Ada Police Department. She was a member of the Maysville Methodist Church, American Legion Auxillary, Ada VFW, Eastern Star, and Jr. Civic Club of Ada. 

Elsie loved watching sports on TV and especially enjoyed her 10 years of cheering on her nephew Jim and the Ohio State Buckeyes from the Shoe.  In her 90’s you still would find a ballgame of some sort on her TV.  Elsie attended the Council on Aging Senior Day Care for the last several years and loved the people there.
      
She is survived by her children; Denny (Karen) Tressel of Ada and Nancy (Wally) Werner of St. Joesph, Missiouri; four grandchildren; Ryan (Angela) Tressel, Kristi (Tim) Hulm, Connie Werner, Jeff (Barb) Werner; five great-grandchildren, Mike and Gabe Werner, Brady and Kenslee Tressel and Alex Hulm. Also surviving are a brother, Robert Hubbell of Ada and many nieces and nephews.         

She was preceded in death by husband Kenny; sisters Ester Huber and Edna Koch; and niece Becky Woodard.        

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada with Pastor Jo n Morris officiating.  Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.  
       
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m.  on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada and until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.   
 
Memorial contributions may be made to the Maysville United Methodist Church, Maysville, Ohio and/or Hardin County Council on Aging Senior Day Care Center, Kenton.
