Betty Plummer was active in many Ada organizations; elected to Alumni Assn. Hall of Honor

Betty Jane Plummer, 92, died on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at 5:15 a.m. at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton.

She was born on March 13, 1923, in Hancock County, Ohio to Michael and Desda (Charlton) Doersam who preceded her in death. On May 28, 1940, she married Joe S. Plummer and he died on Jan. 21, 2006.

Betty retired from Ohio Northern University after 28 years of working in the Custodial Department. Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ada, where she served as an Elder and a Deacon. She was a member and past secretary of the Women’s Guild. Betty was a member, secretary, and treasurer of the Ada Athletic Boosters for 10 years. She was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader and a homeroom mother. She ran the Ada Food pantry for 14 years. Betty was elected into the Ada Alumni Association’s Hall of Honor.

Betty is survived by three sons: Wayne (Irene) Plummer of Lima, Robert Plummer of Millbrook, N.Y. and Joseph (Rose) Plummer of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; three daughters: Marie Bischoff of Ada, Karen (Don) Smith of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Laura (Jeff) Buschur of St. Henry; a son-in-law, Carroll Kouba of Lima; 23 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by a daughter, Irene Kouba; a son, Jeffrey Plummer; six brothers: Donnel, Olan “Pete”, Judson, Chester, Alvin and Albert Doersam; and three sisters: Helen McClure, Kathryn Smith and Ethel Klingler.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m.,  Friday, Jan. 22, 2016 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Rev. Patrick Allen officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada and until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Health Professionals of Ada – Hospice and/or the Ada First Presbyterian Church Women’s Guild.
