The Village Voice: How will you celebrate Arbor Day?

All around the nation, Arbor Day will be celebrated this Friday, April 29h. According to the Arbor Day Foundation, an estimated one million trees were planted in Nebraska on the first Arbor Day in April 1872.

In their annual tradition, Ada Tree Commission is excited to visit with Ada 3rd graders on April 29 to talk about Arbor Day and planting and caring for the trees around us. Mayor Davis Retterer once again has invited the students to be active artist participants in the celebration by drawing pictures of woodworking.

How will you celebrate Arbor Day? The Arbor Day Foundation offers some suggestions:

• Plant a tree
• Read a book about trees – why not try your hand at tree identification?
• Take a stroll through a local park to enjoy nature

Civic involvement is a prominent aspect of the Arbor Day Foundation, so anything you can do to learn and help about the world around you can be a celebration of Arbor Day!
