Fred Fisher portrayed Abraham Lincoln at the LaFayette Memorial Day celebration.

Frederick E. “Fred” Fisher, 75, died on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 11:15 p.m. at Bluffton Hospital, Bluffton. 

He was born on April 2, 1941 in Bluffton, Ohio, to Basil W. and Eleanor (McElwain) Fisher who preceded him in death. On Oct. 2, 1993, he married Betty Lou Smith and she survives in LaFayette. 

Fred retired from Ford Motor Company as a repairman where he had worked for over 30 years. He attended the County Line Church of the Brethren. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Vietnam. He was a lifetime member of the Ada VFW Post #9381 and the Lima BPOE Lodge #54.

He was also a life member of the Ohio Archeological Society and the Mayflower Society. Fred was a member of MOKON and the LaFayette-Jackson Historical Society. He was a member of the Sager Masonic Lodge #513.

Fred was a 1959 graduate of LaFayette-Jackson High School and attended Ohio Northern University. He shore sheep for many years for many people. He was an avid collector and hunter of Indian artifacts. Fred portrayed Abraham Lincoln for many years at the LaFayette Memorial Day celebration. 

He is also survived by two daughters: Tracy Maurer of California and Jamie Maurer of Lima; two sisters: Sandra Bryan of LaFayette and Dortha (Jeff) Turner of Kenton; special nieces: Mirissa Brown, Jolene Brown, and Lorene (Kenny) Murray; and several other nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Curtis, and a brother-in-law, Paul Bryan.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at County Line Church of the Brethren, rural Ada, with Pastor Thomas Dearth and Pastor David Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima. A military graveside service will be performed by the Ada VFW #9381 Honor Guard.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to County Line Church of the Brethren.
