10 VB kills for Alyssa Vore; Mara Guyton, Jil Wolber, Dani Waugh post PRs in CC

CONVOY - The visiting Ada volleyball team swept Crestview Thursday night in a Northwest Conference contest.

The Lady Bulldogs beat Crestview 25-18, 25-17, 25-8 to complete a 3-0 week that saw them lift their overall record to 6-5 and 2-0 in league play. The Knights fell to 3-4 and 0-2 in the NWC with the defeat.

Junior Melina Woods led the victors with 23 kills, 19 digs, two aces and five blocks. Classmate Maddie Gossard dished up 23 assists, made one kill and seven digs while serving six aces.

Senior Alyssa Vore knocked down 10 kills. Freshman Sidney Gossard passed out 10 assists, made six digs and dealt three aces. Junior libero Olivia Alexander came up with 16 digs.

Junior defensive specialist Kaiti Newland 10 mustered digs while Senior Haley Wyss served five aces and added three kills. Junior Teyah Sautter contributed three kills.

Ada lost the JV match 22-25, 25-18, 25-15.

Ada hosts league foe Spencerville (2-7, 0-1 NWC) Tuesday, Sept. 20. The Bulldogs are 3-0 at home and 2-4 on the road, and 1-1 at neutral sites.

James paces Ada harriers at Riverdale

MT. BLANCHARD - The Ada cross country team competed at the Riverdale Invitational Thursday evening.

Freshman standout Abbie James led the Ada girls to fifth place out of seven teams. Meanwhile, the Bulldog boys came in 12th out of a dozen squads, just behind Allen East.

James took fifth overall in a time of 21:16.09, but was third among scoring runners. Senior girls Mara Guyton and Jil Wolber posted personal-best times, as did freshman Dani Waugh.

Eric Armbrecht topped the Ada boys by finishing 42nd in 20:19.05. Sophomore Brayden Cheney came in 72nd with a personal-best time of 24:47.1.

Teammates Seth Evans and Andrew Ross fought to finish ahead of one another, with Ross coming in only .34 of a second in front of Evans. About two minutes later, there was a repeat race for the finish line between Bulldog boys Cheney and Andrew Robey.

Cheney pulled ahead at the last second, edging Robey by .23 of a second.
