Girls' basketball: Ada sting Hornets 64-31

Maddie Gossard scores 21 in win

RAWSON - The Ada girls basketball team tipped off its campaign with a decisive 64-31 win at non-league local foe Cory-Rawson Tuesday night.

Junior Maddie Gossard led the Lady Bulldogs (1-0) with a varsity career-high 21 points. Classmate guard Teara Coulson contributed a dozen markers, and each canned a pair of three-point field goals.

The Lady Hornets fell to 0-3 with the loss in their home opener.

The Bulldogs rolled to a 30-9 halftime lead, then cruised to victory with 34 second half markers.

Ada senior guard Haley Wyss contributed a team-high nine rebounds and eight points. Bulldog junior guard Sydney Newland added nine points and one trey.

Brittany Roth topped Cory with 12 points. C-R out-rebounded Ada, 39-34. But the Hornets committed 23 turnovers to just nine by the Bulldogs.

The victors connected on 38 percent from the field and 68 percent at the foul line. Cold-shooting C-R hit on just 24 percent of its shots from the floor, and made a mere 15 percent from the charity stripe.

The Bulldogs sank five trifectas compared to three treys by the Hornets.

Ada also won the reserve contest, 26-13.

Ada hosts NWC favorite Columbus Grove (1-0) Thursday, December 8 in the league and home opener. Grove crushed visiting Shawnee 66-29 in its lidlifter Tuesday night.
