LIMA - Ada freshman swimmer Klava Katayama qualified for districts by finishing in the top two in a pair of freestyle events at the 14-team Div. II Lima sectionals held Saturday in the YMCA.
She will now swim at the Bowling Green districts Feb. 17-18 for a chance to advance to the state meet Feb. 22-25 at Canton.
Katayama won the 50 freestyle race and took second in the overall 100 freestyle sectional standings to pace Ada.
Several other Bulldogs qualified for the BG district meet next weekend. Junior Zach Beaschler, and seniors Andrew Ross and Andrew Robey each qualified in two individual events as well as part of two relays.
Freshman Isaac Spar made it to BG in the 100 butterfly and the two relays. Senior Evan Smittle also qualified in the 100 backstroke.
The Bulldog boys 400 freestyle relay quartet finished seventh to qualify. The same foursome of Beaschler, Ross, Robey and Spar also made it to BG in the 200 medley relay.
Senior Andrew Ross came in ninth in the 100 backstroke and junior Zach Beaschler finished 12th in the 200 individual medley to register the top Ada individual boys finishes.
The top 32 combined sectional times from the four Div. II Northwest sectional competitions in any event qualified the swimmer(s)for districts.
A top four finish at a district event will likely advance a swimmer or relay foursome to the state meet Feb. 22-25 at Canton.
