7 women honored in track and field

The Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team saw seven members earn All-Great Lakes Region honors for the 2017 season.

Seniors Kelsey Commager (Maumee), Allie Gast (Grandville, Mich.), Michelle Mosler(Wapakoneta), and Meagan Ellinger (Bath, Ind./Union County), junior Emily Richards(Delaware/Hayes) and sophomores Taylor Fisher (Wapakoneta) and Maddy Reed(Lucasville/Piketon) all earned the honor.

Commager earned All-Great Lakes Region in both the long jump and the triple jump.

The senior owns the school record at ONU and will be competing in the event at the NCAA Div. III National Championships on Saturday, Mar. 11 at 10 am CST.

Gast was also named All-Great Lakes Region in the 60-meter hurdles.

Gast qualified for the NCAA Div. III National Championships but was forced to scratch due to injury.

The team of Mosler, Fisher, Ellinger and Richards earned All-Great Lakes Region in the 4x400-meter relay. 

The team broke the school record in 2017, posting a time of 3:58.15.

Richards was also named All-Great Lakes Region in both the 800-meter run and the 1-mile run.

The junior owns the fastest time in the country in both events by more than three seconds and will be competing in the 800-meter run prelims on Mar. 10 at 3:05 pm CST with the top-8 competitors reaching the finals on Mar. 11, and will run the prelims for the 1-mile run on Mar. 10 at 1 pm CST.

Reed earned All-Great Lakes Region honors in the pole vault for the second consecutive year.

The sophomore broke the school record and OAC record at this seasons OAC Championships and became the first female pole vaulter in school history and OAC history to clear four meters or higher.

Reed owns the second best vault in the country and will compete at the NCAA Div. III National Championships on Friday, Mar. 10 at 3 pm CST
