Meeting set to describe receiving college credit while in high school

Want to receive college credit while in high school?

There will be a meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, in the Ada Schools auditorium for junior and senior high school students and their parents interested in College Credit Plus and Credit Flex programs, which have been passed by the state legislature.

The College Plus program allows high school students to enroll in college courses while enrolled in high school, if the student meets eligibility requirements set by the college or university.

Students may enroll during the school day or in the evening.  If the student chooses to use the credit toward high school graduation, the cost of tuition, books, and fees will be paid by the high school.

In considering this option for next school year, students need to evaluate academic records and career goals.  Students should consider credit requirements for high school graduation, consequences of failing a college course, scheduling, travel time, athletic eligibility, and other factors.

The credit flexibility program allows students to customize aspects of their learning around their needs and interests.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both programs.
