Parker & Parker Quartet to perform Sunday

The Parker& Parker Quartet will perform at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 2 in the Presser Hall. The concert, which is free and open to the public, is part of the ONU Music Department’s Jazz Concert Series.

 

The group consists of Gene Parker, instructor of Jazz Studies at Ohio Northern University, on saxophone; and, all from New York City, Bill Carrothers on piano; Ray Parker on bass; and George Schuller on drums.

 

Gene Parker attended the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and has been a professional musician in the Toledo area for 50 years. He has extensive studio experience in the Detroit and Toledo area and has been a guest artist with the Toledo Symphony.  

 

Carrothers has been a professional pianist for more than 25 years. He has played many venues throughout the U.S. and Europe. He has performed with some of the greatest names in jazz.

 

Ray Parker is a bass player, leader and sideman. His 2012-2013 trio project, “Swingin’ Never Hurt Nobody” charted highly.  He has recorded or played with Dizzy Gillespie, Peter Erskine, the Three Irish Tenors and the Glenn Miller Orchestra, among others.

 

Schuller has released several albums and recorded and/or produced CD’s with many musicians including Orange Then Blue, Ran Blake, Jason Robinson and Gunther Schuller.  Currently, Schuller has been touring with The Lee Konitz Quartet
