The "Last Lecture"

Dave Retterer, Ph.D., retires from his day job after 38 years at ONU

By Monty Siekerman
Dave Retterer gave "The Last Lecture" on Tuesday afternoon in McIntosh Center. Retterer, Ph.D., is retiring from his day job but will continue his duties as mayor.

He began teaching at Ohio Northern 38 years ago in the math and computer science department, which then was part of the College of Arts and Sciences. It's now part of the College of Engineering.

Engineering sponsored a senior design showcase on Tuesday, thus many alumni returned to campus to judge the projects and attend a reception for their former, and in many cases, favorite professor.

After his Last Lecture, a number of his former students took to the mic to express their appreciation to him, saying how they have benefitted from his wisdom both in their personal and professional lives. (When you see him in town, ask about the monkey story.)

He has served as mayor of the Village of Ada for 14 years and will continue to do so, attending many council, commission, and public meetings.

He is truly a member of the town and gown...and his license plate proves it: ADA ONU.
