ONU senior Kase Schalois (Van Wert) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase to earn All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors and lead the men's track and field team on the first day of the OAC Championships and Muskingum University.
The Polar Bears are currently in second place after the first day of the meet with 53 points.
Schalois led a 1-2 finish for Northern in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as he won the event in facility record 9:15.66.
Junior Samuel Boyd (Killbuck/West Holmes) also earned All-Conference honors in the event as he posted a second place finish in 9:27.27.
The 4x800-meter relay team of senior Andrew Harden (Dayton/Vandalia-Butler), juniors Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) and Alec Lunney (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) and sophomore Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) also posted a first place finish as they claimed the title in the event in 7:45.15.
Senior Lucas Shumate (Wapakoneta/Spencerville) finished second in the discus and also earned All-OAC honors with a toss of 154' 4.25".
In the 400-meter dash, junior Conner Karg (West Liberty/Salem) advanced to the finals after posting an eighth place finish in the event in :49.61.
Freshman Jacob Vires (Monroe) advanced to the finals in the 100-meter dash, finishing in season-best :11.04.
In the 400-meter hurdles, junior Brandon Emert (Brunswick) finished fourth overall in :56.40 to advance to the finals on Saturday.
Sophomore Spencer Schulze (St. Henry) concluded day one as he earned All-OAC honors in the 10,000-meter run and finished third in 32:39.08.
The Polar Bears return to action tomorrow morning as they compete on the final day of the OAC Championships.
