Men's soccer drops 3-2 decision to Ohio Wesleyan

ADA -- The Ohio Northern men's soccer team fell 3-2 to Ohio Wesleyan in an exciting matchup on Wednesday evening at Kerscher Stadium.

The Polar Bears fall to 3-2-1 overall, while the Bishops improve to 3-2-0.

Seniors Cory Lains (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community) and J.J. Fortner (Maumee) led the way for Northern offensively as each scored a goal.

Senior Grant Cayot (Roanoke, Ind./Blackhawk Christian) added an assist for the Polar Bears.

OWU would strike first in the contest in the 17th minute to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Bishops would add to their lead in the 32nd minute to extend the lead and take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

Northern would get one back in the 79th minute as Cayot played a ball overtop of the OWU defense and found Lains to bring Northern within 2-1.

Minutes later, Fortner would pick up a loose ball in the 84th minute and beat the keeper to knot the game at 2-2 with just over five minutes remaining in the contest.

Less than two minutes later, the Bishops would score the go-ahead goal to seal the 3-2 victory.

Freshman Dylan Plank (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim) led the way defensively as he recorded five saves in the goal.

OWU outshot ONU 19-15, while the Polar Bears won the corner kick battle by a 7-4 margin.

Northern will return to the field Saturday, Sept. 16 as it travels to Oberlin to take on the Yoemen at 7 pm.
