Potters, Jordan lead No. 22 Volleyball to 4-set victory over Kenyon

ADA — Senior Haley Potters (Wheelersburg/South Webster) tied a career-high with 20 kills and sophomore McKenna Jordan (Toledo/Saint Ursula) had 18 kills to lead No. 22-ranked Ohio Northern to a 4-set volleyball victory over Kenyon Wednesday night at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears (10-3 overall) also got 13 kills from sophomore Chelsea Huppert (Bremen, Ind.) and 57 assists from Katie Wade (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) in the 21-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-22 win.

The Ladies (8-4) were led by Haley Witschey with 13 kills and Schuyler Stupica with 10 kills.

Kenyon rallied from a 20-18 deficit to score seven of the final eight points to win the opening set 25-21.

In Set 2, ONU trailed 17-16 before rattling off eight consecutive points to grab a 24-17 lead in the 25-18 victory.

Northern used a 9-1 run to grab a commanding 16-8 lead in the third set, only to see the Ladies climb back to within 19-16.

ONU put the set away by scoring six of the final seven points to win 25-17 and take a two sets to one lead.

In the final set, a 9-2 Polar Bear run gave the hosts a 16-12 lead. KC tied the match at 20-all, but ONU scored four consecutive points to go up 24-20.

The lead was 24-22 when a kill by Huppert ended the contest.

Ohio Northern hit .268 for the match with 72 kills and 24 errors, while Kenyon hit .196 with 46 kills and 16 errors.

Wade and sophomore Kristin Langston (Versailles) had 12 digs each for ONU.

The Polar Bears will return to action this weekend with four matches at the OAC/HCAC Challenge at Baldwin Wallace.

On Friday, ONU will face Mount Saint Joseph at 4 pm and Hanover (Ind.) at 8 pm. On Saturday, Northern will face area-rivals Defiance at 10 am and Bluffton at 2 pm.
