Elgin shuts out Ada boys

By Cort Reynolds

MARION - Marion Elgin scored six runs in the fourth inning to break open a close game and defeat the visiting Ada baseball team 10-0 in a non-conference contest Friday evening.

The Bulldogs fell to 3-6 overall after the five-inning, run-rule shortened defeat. Elgin improved to 10-4 with the victory.

The hosts scored one run in the bottom of the first, and plated two more in the third to build a 3-0 lead. Elgin then put it out of reach with six scores in the fourth, and ended it with a run in the fifth.

The Comets out-hit Ada 7-3 and played error-less defense.

Seniors Aaron Everhart and Colten Shaffer each singled, as did junior Ethan Hall, to provide the Bulldog hits. Everhart also stole a base and walked once.

Joe Greene pitched all five innings to earn the win for Elgin, striking out seven and walking one.

Jacob Neal hit a double, two singles and drove in four runs to pace the Comet offense. Teammate Brock Stoner scored three runs and Tyler Nichols crossed home twice.

Sophomore Landon Blankenship started on the mound for Ada and hurled 3 2/3 innings, giving up five hits and eight earned runs.
