Lady Bulldogs fall at Shawnee

LIMA SHAWNEE - The Ada softball team lost 11-2 at non-league foe Shawnee in a Wednesday evening contest.

 

Ada fell to 5-2 and had its four-game win streak snapped with the defeat, while Shawnee improved to 4-0 with the win.

 

The Lady Bulldogs jumped ahead 2-0 in the top of the first inning on a double by Maddie Gossard. But Shawnee tallied three runs in the bottom of the first, and never trailed again.

 

The Indians scored two runs in the bottom of the third, then added two more scores in the fourth to take a 7-2 lead.

 

Shawnee tacked on a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

 

Bulldog senior leadoff batter Olivia Alexander amassed a hit and scored one run in the first.

 

Senior catcher Sydney Newland collected one hit. Third sacker Gossard contributed a two-run double.

 

Senior outfielder Kaiti Newland walked and scored the other Ada run in the first. Junior infielder Raina England contributed a single.

 

Freshman Leona Dalton was the starting Ada pitcher. She hurled four innings, allowing nine hits, two walks and four earned runs. Dalton added a single on offense.

 

Gossard pitched the final two frames, allowing four hits and one earned run. She walked two and struck out two Indians.

 

Shawnee out-hit Ada, 13-5.

Ada (2-0 NWC) hosts Delphos Jefferson (0-4, 0-1 NWC) Thursday at 5 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs are 1-0 at home this spring, having had four home games postponed already by bad weather.
