Sumner to discuss wrestling future on WONB

By Grant Pepper
Tune into WONB 94.9 FM on Friday at 8:30 a.m. to hear Ada senior Chase Sumner talk about his commitment to wrestle and continue his education at the University of Pittsburgh next year.

On this week’s edition of ‘The Pep Talk’ with Grant Pepper, Sumner discussed why he chose Pitt, as he had offers from other Div. I schools like Buffalo to consider as well.

“They’re a young program so they can’t go anywhere but up. I love the coaching staff, I love the campus down there, just about everything,” Sumner said. “And my biggest thing was, how high is my ceiling? What’s my full potential? And I feel like I can reach that the most at Pitt.”

Sumner also talked about his wrestling career at Ada, where he essentially set every major school wrestling record. The senior recorded 151 career wins and just 27 losses while making three state appearances, including a fourth place finish during his sophomore year. Sumner holds the school record for wins, takedowns, pins, nearfalls and team points.

He also discussed what it was like wrestling for his father, Jason, who was his head coach. Sumner talked about his plans to study nursing and about how much he’ll miss football, as he was a two-time first team All-Ohio receiver at Ada.

Make sure to listen on Friday at 8:30 a.m. to hear to this conversation with Chase Sumner, the most decorated wrestler in Ada High School history. You can listen in your car on 94.9 FM or online at WONB.net. If you can’t listen at that time, SportsBeat 94.9 FM’s Twitter page, @SportsBeat949FM, will also post a link to the interview after it is aired.
