Lady Bulldogs prevail in extras

MIDDLE POINT - The visiting Ada softball team scored four runs in the top of the eighth to beat Lincolnview 10-6 in a Northwest Conference extra-inning road battle Monday evening.

 

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 12-6 and 4-3 in the NWC with the hard-fought win. The Lady Lancers fell to 7-8 and 1-5 in league play with the loss.

 

Both teams scored two runs in the sixth inning to tie it again, 6-6. After a scoreless seventh, the Bulldogs erupted for four runs in the top of the eighth to win it.

 

Ada freshman pitcher Leona Dalton went the distance to pick up her 10th win. She struck out three, walked one and scattered nine hits, giving up three earned runs in eight innings.

 

Ada out-hit Lincolnview, 10-9.

 

Senior Maddie Gossard led the offense with a home run and two doubles. She drove in four runs and scored once.

 

Junior Raina England doubled, singled and knocked in three runs. Senior Sydney Newland doubled and scored three runs. Senior Kaiti Newland singled, scored a run and had an RBI.

 

Senior Nicki Lehsten tripled and scored a run, while junior Alexis Ennis added a hit. Senior Teara Coulson contributed a hit and a run scored.

 

Senior Olivia Alexander and freshman Aubrey Madison each scored a run.

 

The Lady Bulldogs trailed 3-2 after three frames, but went ahead with two runs in the fourth. Lincolnview tied it 4-4 with a tally in the home fourth. Then each team plated two more runs in the sixth to tie it for the final time in the seesaw contest.

Ada (9-4 away) plays at non-league foe LCC Tuesday. They then finish the NWC portion of their schedule at rival Columbus Grove (11-2, 3-2 NWC) Thursday, May 3.
