“No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally –
and often far more – worth reading at the age of fifty and beyond.”
―C.S. Lewis

Name: Clara Burke, age 11, Homeschooler in 6th grade

The Horse and His Boy is Clara Burke’s favorite book. This is book three of a juvenile fiction, classic fantasy series by C.S. Lewis. This episode follows two runaways in a magical land who become involved in a battle of dire consequences. The land is called “Narnia…where horses talk…where treachery is brewing…where destiny awaits.” Clara says, “It is very well written and fun.” The novel needs not be read in conjunction with the series but will almost certainly engage readers to investigate The Chronicles of Narnia Series.

• Currently Clara Burke is reading the Emily Windsnap Series by Liz Kessler. Five other books Clara recommends are:

• Gone-Away Lake by Elizabeth Enright (juvenile fiction)

• The Minerva Mint Series by Elisa Puricelli Guerra (juvenile fiction, adventure)

• The Boxcar Children Series by Gertrude Chandler Warner (fiction, mystery)

• Young Fredle by Cynthia Voight (fiction, adventure)

• The Silver Chair by C.S. Lewis (juvenile fiction, fantasy)
