Hornets sting Ada girl kickers

By Cort Reynolds

RAWSON - The visiting Ada girls soccer team lost 7-1 at Cory-Rawson Wednesday evening.

Ada fell to 3-4 overall with the defeat.

C-R scored early on a through ball that got past the Ada defense to grab a 1-0 edge. About 10 minutes later, the Lady Hornets extended the lead to 2-0 on a similar goal and the score that way into halftime.

"It was pretty evenly matched for the first 15 minutes," said Bulldog head coach Doug Poling. "We played on our heels the rest of the first half."

Ada tallied its lone goal early in half two when Katie Butterfield put a through ball by Timberlyn Blankenship into the back of the net.

However, C-R countered quickly with two goals to re-establish command by a 4-1 margin. The Hornets tacked on three more second half goals to provide the final margin.

"We were unable to get much of anything going after cutting it to 2-1," Poling noted.

Ada trailed C-R in shots on goal by an 18-8 margin. Bulldog keeper McKenzie Long was credited with 11 saves in goal.

The Bulldogs next play Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Van Buren
