OAC women's cross country runner of the week is a Polar Bear

And, women's golfer alway obtains OAC weekly honors

Ohio Northern junior Ashlie Baumann (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of Sept. 1-4.

Baumann led the Polar Bears (8-0) to a victory in the season-opening Bluffton 5k on Friday at the Bluffton Nature Preserve.

She led Ohio Northern across the finish line in fifth place of 90 runners in a career-best 18:48 which ties her for 10th all-time at Ohio Northern.

The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday at the Calvin (Mich.) Invitational.

'Bears ranked 25th nationally in D3 volleyball

 The Ohio Northern volleyball team is ranked No. 25 in the first weekly American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, released Tuesday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (3-1) received 135 points in the poll, which is 126 fewer than the 261 they received as the No. 22-ranked team in the AVCA preseason poll in August.

Calvin (Mich.) topped the poll with 1,675 points and all 67 first place votes, Northwestern (Minn.) is second with 1,526 points and Southwestern (Tex.) is third with 1,474 points.

Northern finished the 2016 season with a 27-4 record and a perfect 9-0 record in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while being ranked No. 24 in the final AVCA poll.

The Pelvic Pain Center at Bluffton Hospital hosting informational luncheon

RSVP by Sept. 13 for event held at The Centre

The Pelvic Pain Center at Bluffton Hospital will be hosting an informational luncheon titled “Let’s Talk about Pelvic Pain” on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at The Centre at Bluffton, 601 N Main St., Bluffton.

Providers from The Pelvic Pain Center will discuss the conditions of pelvic pain as well as treatment options. This information session will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and lunch will be provided.

60th anniversary celebration

Dick and Peggy Lawrence celebration

Dick and Peggy Lawrence celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday with 23 family members at Flowers and Bread restaurant in Columbus.

Their three children, Jill, of Wausau, Wisconsin, Juli of Athens, Ohio,  and Jeff of Ada attended as did their five grandchildren from Wisconsin, Michigan, Massachusetts, Washington D.C., and China, and their spouses.

Bob and Karen Ward (top) of Ada hosted four generations over Labor Day weekend, including Karen's parents, Jack and Betty Gentry of Rogers, Ark.
