Library centennial

The Ada Public Library is celebrating its centennial. ONU graphic art majors Stephanie Sanicky and Beth Tremains designed this logo and created a campaign for the 100th anniversary. The logo will be used on posters, a bookmark, website and social media. The students worked with library board member Jamie Wills. ONU design students study design in class, but also work with real clients to gain first-hand experience, according to Prof. Brit Rowe.

Observations, insights and sightings: The ribbing was constant

All because of a taped-up finger

By Monty Siekerman
I had a middle finger problem, but this ain't no story where I admit to a shrink that I need help, advice, counseling.

It was a garden accident.

That's all I'm going to say. (Well, there were 11 stitches.) In time, the injury healed.

But the ribbing was constant, especially when friends and foe saw the erect middle finger bandaged (big bandage) in neon yellow. And, the digit had a splint on it for 10 days.

There was no way to hide it. It stood out like a sore thumb.

What do these animals have in common - kangaroo, Siberian lynx, honey bear?

The Ada Public Library brings them to Ada on Tuesday at 11 a.m.

By Monty Siekerman
Don't be surprised If you see a kangaroo hopping around the United Methodist Church on Tuesday morning because the Ada Public Library is sponsoring a program by the Exotic Zoo of Farmington Hills, Mich. The free program will begin at 11 a.m.
Other animals scheduled to be on hand include a Siberian lynx, honey bear, exotic birds, and more.

All are welcome to the 60-90 minute program at the Ada First United Methodist Church, 301 N. Main.

Many library programs will be held at other locations in the next several months due to the library's addition and renovation.

Ada Music Boosters blueberry pie

Easy to bake, quick to polish off

Thanks to the Ada Music Boosters most freezers in Ada are full of blueberries.

We don’t know your favorite blueberry pie recipe, so we made one up in honor of the Boosters. It’s pretty easy to create.

Turn over to 400 degrees

• Pie crust (buy it or make it – your call)

1 ½ cup yogurt
¼ cup sugar
1 teaspoon corn starch
1 egg
2 teaspoons lime juice (okay, lemon if you must)
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 cups of blueberries

We mixed the egg, lime juice, vanilla together and poured that mixture into the rest of the ingredients. Stir it up and pour into the pie crust.
