Ada swimmers open season at Napoleon

NAPOLEON - The Ada swim team competed in its opening meet at the Napoleon Wildcat Invitational Saturday.

The Bulldog boys finished a solid fifth amid a 15-team field. The Ada girls came in 12th out of 16 teams.

The Bulldog boys 200 medley relay quartet finished first. Senior Andrew Ross also won the 100 backstroke event to highlight the Bulldog male efforts.

Senior Andrew Robey finished third in the 50 freestyle. Junior Zach Beaschler ended up third in both the 100 free and 100 breaststroke races.

Wrestling: Ada matmen 5th at Lancer meet; 2 Bulldogs finish 2nd

MIDDLE POINT - The Ada wrestling team finished fifth at the tough 11-team Lancer Invitational in Lincolnview Saturday.

Defiance won the team competition with 235.5 points, followed by Van Wert (209) and Delphos Jefferson (201). Spencerville finished just ahead of Ada in fourth with 185 points, compared to 172 by the Bulldogs.

"I am really proud of our team as a whole," said second-year Bulldog head coach Jason Sumner. "These guys are young and inexperienced but find a way to compete well.

"Standouts were Damien Cameron at 106 lbs. and Dillion Foster  at 120 lbs.," said Sumner. "Both earned second place."

Boys' basketball: Bulldog boys edged by Kalida

ADA - It went down to the final second, but the Ada boys basketball team
lost a hard-fought home opener to visiting Kalida Friday night by a 62-59
count.

The Bulldogs fell to 1-1 while the Wildcats improved to 2-0 after the
final outcome.

Wildcat senior guard Trent Siebeneck sank two pressure foul shots with 4.5
seconds remaining to provide a 62-59 lead, yet Ada had a chance to tie
with a three-pointer.

Pharmacist Deb Retterer hangs up her white coat at the end of this month

One of her first jobs out of ONU was at Gardner's Pharmacy, Ada

FROM BLUFFTON ICON - Deb Retterer, Greg’s Pharmacy of Bluffton manager and pharmacist, hangs up her white coat for the final time later this month.

Retterer of Ada, has handled pharmacy needs of  area residents since 1989 when she joined Greg Conkling in a part-time position.

After Conking sold the pharmacy to Clark’s in January of 2013 Retterer became the store manager. In that role, she’s more than a pharmacist. She oversees store sales, expenses, inventory and staff needs.

Today the pharmacy employs eight persons including two pharmacists, four certified pharmacy technicians and two Ohio Northern University pharmacy interns.
