Richland Manor passes monthly Bingo event to other sponsors

Bingo anyone?

Seniors have met at Community Health Professionals for nine years to lunch and play bingo, but this week's gathering was the last one sponsored by Richland Manor Nursing Home.

Here, Donna Shadley and Dorothy Clum spin the wheel to see who might win the jackpot.

Although Richland Manor is giving up the weekly Bingo sponsorship for seniors, never fear. Community Health Professionals has agreed to host and sponsor the event in the future.

The weekly lunch and bingo will resume at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays beginning in January.

Voted best holiday window

Streamline Insurance and Wine and Design won the first -ever Christmas window decorating contest sponsored by the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce. Holding the trophy are Mark and Vicki Southwood of Streamline and their daughter Amanda Morrison of Wine and Design, both located at 220 N. Main. Health Trends and Cole Humphrey came in a close second and third. More than 120 votes were cast at the depot on Monday evening for the best window display during the Chamber's Merry on Main. 140 seniors attend school's holiday luncheon

Dr. Suzanne Darmer, superintendent, will retire at end of month

Suzanne Darmer (left) and Robin VanBuskirk welcomed 140 senior citizens to a thank you luncheon at the Ada Schools on Wednesday.

Both ladies have been involved with the local schools for 10 years. Dr. Darmer will retire as schools superintendent at the end of this month. Ms. VanBuskirk is principal for K-12 grades.

The school system and several organizations sponsor an annual holiday luncheon every year to thank the senior citizens for their support of the schools and for their contributions to the community.

Christmas cantata at First United Methodist

During Sunday's worship service

Ada First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir, along with many friends from ONU, will present their annual Christmas Cantata titled, "Jesus! The Advent of the Messiah" by Mary McDonald and Rose Aspinall.

The performance is at 10 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 11, during the morning worship service.

The 30-member choir will be accompanied by a full orchestra of community musicians and ONU students.

 

13th annual remembrance service Saturday

Hosted by Hanson-Neely Funeral Home

Hanson-Neely Funeral Home will hold its 13th annual remembrance service at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, at its Ada chapel, 311 E. Lima Ave., according to Bruce Neely.

Persons attending may arrive anytime between 2 and 3 p.m. Upon arrival, a personalized ornament will be given to the family to place on a Christmas tree. Call ahead so the ornament can be personalized in memory of someone from the family attending the service.

A short memorial service will take place at 3 p.m.  A time of sharing and light refreshments will follow.
