Daniel Donner hits 17, 11 rebounds

But Baldwin Wallace stops 'Bears

Senior Daniel Donner (Bellville/Northmor) had his first career double-double and senior All-American Ryan Bruns (Chickasaw/Marion Local) scored 32 points to lead the Ohio Northern men's basketball team in a 90-75 loss at Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday evening at Lou Higgins Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears fall to 4-10 overall and are 0-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Yellow jackets are now 10-4, 4-3.

Donner posted career-highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds, Bruns had 26 of his 32 points in the second half and sophomore Colton Bachman (Piqua) added 14 points off the bench for ONU.

BW had four players in double figures in scoring, led by Matthew Dimitrijevs with 18 points off the bench.

The Yellow Jackets used an 11-0 run to take an early 23-11 lead and outscored ONU 15-4 later in the half to go up 50-29 before settling for a 52-32 halftime lead.

Bruns sparked an 11-0 run with three baskets inside as Northern pulled within 63-52 with 13:03 left in the game.

A 3-pointer from Bachman got ONU with 66-59 with 10:36 to go and a basket by Bruns at the 8:55 mark made it 69-63.

A Bruns basket with 8:07 left made it 71-65, but the Yellow Jackets would score the next six points to push their advantage to 77-65 with 5:18 remaining.

Ohio Northern would get within 10 points on several occasions in the final five minutes, but the hosts would hold on for the win.

As a team, the Polar Bears made 30-of-60 from the field for 50.0 percent and 7-of-21 from three-point range for 33.3 percent. Baldwin Wallace converted 34-of-74 shot attempts for 45.9 percent and 14-of-37 on three-pointers for 37.8 percent.

ONU out-rebounded BW 39-35, but committed 16 turnovers to only four for the hosts.

Ohio Northern will return home on Saturday to face No. 10-ranked Marietta at 5 pm in the second game of a men's-women's double header at the ONU Sports Center.
