Men's team picked as pre-season OAC leader

University lacrosse season begins later this month. Here’s a preview of ONU men’s and women’s team.

Men’s outlook
The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team has been picked to repeat as Co-Champions in the Ohio Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll in voting conducted by the league's 10 head coaches.

The Polar Bears received 75 points and six of the 10 first place votes in the poll.

John Carroll was also picked as a Co-Champion with 75 points and the otehr four first place votes, while Baldwin Wallace was picked to finish third with 68 points.

The Polar Bears return all 10 starters, nine All-Conference honorees and its top 13 scorers from last year's squad that went 14-3 and shared the OAC Regular Season title with JCU with a 7-1 league record.

Northern will open its 2019 campaign under fourth-year head coach Nat St. Laurent on Feb. 16 with a home game against Elmhurst (Ill.) at 3 pm at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

Women’s outlook
The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team was picked to finish sixth in the Ohio Athletic Conference Preseason Poll, voted on by the conference's nine head coaches.

The Polar Bears received 24 points in the poll.

Mount Union was picked to finish first in the poll with 62 points and seven first place votes, Capital was picked to finish second with 53 points and the other two first place votes, and Baldwin Wallace was selected to finish third with 52 points.

The Polar Bears feature 16 letterwinners and 11 starters in 2019 after finishing last yseason 6-10 overall and 3-5 in the OAC.

Northern will open its season on Feb. 27 at home against Hiram at Dial-Roberson Stadium under fourth-year head coach Beth Hemminger.
