ONU men finished 9th of 20 team field

Freshman Andrew Buderer (Oak Harbor) posted a runner-up finish in the pole vault Saturday afternoon, leading the Ohio Northern men's track and field team to a ninth-place finish in a 20-team field on the George Gauthier Track in Delaware at the 2019 All-Ohio Championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.

The Polar Bears (44-10 overall) ended ninth overall after tallying 38.5 team points on Saturday. Otterbein won the team title with 140.50 points; John Carroll finished second with 116 points; and Case Western Reserve took third with 92.5 points.

In all, Northern posted 12 top-eight finishes to contribute to the team's final point total, including six top-five results.

Buderer topped the individual efforts after clearing a new outdoor-best 4.46 meters (14' 7.5") for a second-place performance in the 10-person pole vault field. Classmate Luke Shellhaas (Greenville/Versailles) joined the Oak Harbor native on the podium, finishing fourth with a 4.36-meter (14' 3.5") clearance.

Sophomore thrower Matt Bradshaw (Cleveland/Norton) added two additional top-five efforts in field events in the hammer throw and the discus. He launched the hammer a career-best 53.73 meters (176' 3") for a fourth-place finish and tossed the discus 45.88 meters (150' 6") to end fifth in a 20-person field.

On the track, sophomore Sam Krabacher (Hamilton/Badin) posted the top individual effort after finishing fourth in the 800-meter run. His 1:57.45 clocking established a new career-best for the Hamilton product and marked the fastest time for a Polar Bear in the event this season.

In the 5,000-meter run, senior Spencer Schulze (St. Henry) and freshman Caden Sauerbrey (Dresden/Tri-Valley) ended fifth and eighth overall in 15:10.78 and 15:16.79, respectively.

Sophomore hurdler/jumper Owen Lloyd (Colfax, Ind./Clinton Prairie) established a new outdoor career-best with a 1.83-meter (6' 0") leap in the high jump competition to tie for seventh.

Meanwhile, freshman Michael Mustari (Fort Myers, Fla./Dunbar) and Lloyd ended 7-8 in the 110-meter hurdles competition. The former crossed the tape in :15.22 while the latter registered a :15.40 effort.

Sophomores Donovin Moran (Saint John, Ind./Hanover Central) and Jared Fox (Fremont/Ross) recorded the final top-eight results after taking eighth in the 400-meter hurdles and 400-meter dash in :57.91 and :50.08, respectively.

In addition, senior All-American Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) competed in the 5,000-meter run at the Bison Outdoor Classic, held at Bucknell (Pa.). He ended 17th overall and first among NCAA Division III competitors in an interdivisional field with a new career outdoor-best 14:27.52.

Ohio Northern will return to action next weekend when they host the AJ Cody Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20. Field events begin on Friday with the hammer throw and javelin competitions while the remaining events will be contested on Saturday.
