Tennis: Bulldog netters fall at O-G

By Cort Reynolds
OTTAWA - The Ada tennis team lost 4-1 at undefeated Ottawa-Glandorf in a makeup match Thursday.

Ada fell to 7-3 with the defeat while O-G ran its perfect record to 7-0. The Bulldogs are now 4-1 vs. WBL teams this spring.

Bulldog senior Cade Mullins posted the lone Bulldog win at first singles in straight sets to improve to 8-1 this spring.

"Today was a tough loss for us," said head coach Cody Hurley. "For the first time this season we just weren't able to produce our best tennis on all five courts. It was unfortunate that it came against such a great opponent, but sometimes that happens.

"Credit O-G, they rose to the occasion and showed why they are unbeaten on the season," he continued. "Cade didn't play his best tennis today, but he still picked up a nice win at first singles.

"I have a feeling we will look back at this match later in the season and be grateful that it happened," added Hurley.

Singles:
1. Cade Mullins (A) def. Carter Welch (OG) 6-2, 6-4
2. Parker Shoemaker (OG) def. Isaac Spar (A) 6-2, 6-4
3. Colin Welch (OG) def. Miranda Wills (A) 6-4, 6-2

Doubles:
1D. Drew Kuhlman/Kamron Maag (OG) def. Morgan Swick/Hunter Wells (A) 6-0, 6-0
2D. Nolan Unterbrink/Sam Schmenk (OG) def. Gabe Hasan (A)/Dexter Woods 6-3, 6-4

"Don't get me wrong, this loss stings, but from my perspective we can learn from today and use it as fuel to finish the regular season strong over the next coming weeks," said the coach.

Ada plays at Marion Harding Friday. They then compete in an eight-team tournament at Marion Pleasant Saturday.
