Softball: Lady Bulldogs end season

ADA - The Ada girls softball season came to a close with a 13-0 loss to visiting Lincolnview in Northwest Conference play on a chilly, overcast Friday evening.

The Lady Bulldogs finished 9-13 overall and 1-7 in the NWC with the defeat. The Lady Lancers improved to 15-6 overall and 4-3 in the NWC with the run-rule shortened, five-inning win.

"We have a young team with a lot of growing to do," said Ada first-year head coach Rebecca Dicke. "We have some talented players who will keep working hard in the off-season and get more experience as we continue to rebuild."

The game was scoreless until the third inning. Tori Boyd led off the Lancer third with a double to left-center field. Andi Webb lined a run-scoring single to left to put the visitors on top, 1-0.

Ada senior pitcher Raina England then recorded a pop-out and a strikeout. Destiny Coil was hit by a pitch and Morgan Miller roped a two-run single to left.

Lancer pitcher Winter Boroff smashed an RBI double off the top of the fence in left-center field for a 5-0 lead. Carly Wendel followed with an RBI single to center that made it 6-0.

After a walk, Webb was retired on a fly ball to center fielder Alexis Ennis to end the big inning.

Boroff set Ada down on two strikeouts and a pop-out to shortstop in the home third.

In the top of the fourth, Lincolnview took advantage of three Ada errors to start the inning. Coil lined a shot off the base of the fence to build their lead to 7-0.

A pop-up by Miller in very shallow right field turned into a sacrifice fly and an 8-0 margin. Boroff's long fly ball to Ennis brought home another run. A wild pitch plated the fourth run of the inning and extended the margin to 10-0.

In the Ada fourth, Lexi Waugh beat out a grounder to second base for a two-out single. Waugh then stole second as she avoided the tag, but was stranded ona strikeout to end the threat.

Boyd led off the Lancer fifth by stroking a single to left field. Web laid down a sacrifice bunt and Annie Mendenhall popped out to catcher Waugh.

Lakin Brant then drilled a two-run homer over the left field wall to provide a 12-0 lead. Kendall Bollenbacher singled up the middle and scored on an RBI single to center by Miller for the final run.

In the Bulldog fifth, the firts two hitters went out on grounders to middle infielders. Hustling sophomore Tori Green then beat out a grounder back to pitcher Boroff when she avoided the tag at first base with a good slide under the fielder's glove.

Melina Temple then worked a 3-2 pitch walk to bring up leadoff hitter Ennis. Green swiped second base and moved up to third on an error.

In her last at bat the speedy Ennis slapped a grounder to shortstop, but she was thrown out in a close play to end the game and season by the 10-run rule after five innings.

Miller drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Lancer offense. Boroff had three RBI while Brant knocked in a pair of runs with a homer, plus she singled and scored twice.

Coil had two hits and scored two runs while adding an RBI. Boyd had a single and double. Bollenbacher scored two runs while Webb had a run and a hit. Mendenhall added two runs.

Waugh singled twice and Geen added the other Bulldog hit.

Lincolnview out-hit Ada, 12-3.

Seniors England and Ennis played their final games as Bulldogs. "We will definitely miss those two seniors," said Dicke. "They leave big holes to fill."

The Bulldogs and Lancers each left four runners on base. The Bulldogs were guilty of four errors, and ML was charged with two miscues.
