It's Ada’s "pool party" aka Water Zumba

Monday and Wednesday evenings - just show up

By Barb Lockhard
According to instructor Lynne Scott, people are having so much fun at her Aqua Zumba classes, they refer to them as “pool parties.”

Held Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7-7:45 p.m. at the Ada Municipal Pool on South Park Drive, the classes have drawn as many as 30 people since hot weather finally arrived.

“It was pretty chilly in June,” said Scott.  “but we’ve really been gaining momentum in the past few weeks.”

A fitness enthusiast, Scott earned her Zumba license at age 45.  She explained that she completed a day-long training session for Zumba with additional time to train in Aqua Zumba.  Scott likes the water workout because it’s friendlier to those with knee and hip issues.  In fact, she has some students who can only exercise in the water.

This marks Scott’s fourth year teaching the evening class in Ada. (She also brings her pool party to Lima!). Classes are offered on a drop-in basis at a cost of $5.  There’s no need to register in advance.

“You don’t need to have any swimming or dance skills,” Scott added.  “You don’t even have to be coordinated,” she laughed.

Scott has found that, although some people are hesitant to put on a swimsuit, they become less inhibited once they’re in the water.  She emphasized that the classes aren’t just for the senior population and has had participants as young as 14.

Aqua Zumba classes will be offered until the pool closes for the season.  Scott encourages those who are interested to try a class.  Who wouldn’t want to be invited to a pool party?
