Water main break causes boil water advisory

Village crews have water turned back on for the residences impacted by the water main break that occurred on South Simon Street

UPDATE AT 1 P.M. – South Simon Street between North Park and South Park Avenues is now open for through traffic.  Please continue to proceed with caution, as the temporary road repair from the water main break on 6/22/2020 remains uneven.

A water main break occurring on Monday evening has temporarily closed South Simon Street north of North Park Drive to South Park Drive, according to the village of Ada.

The village asks residents to not attempt to drive through the work zone, as the ground may still be unstable until crews can get the trench backfilled and stabilized.

If you need to access the Ada Park, please do so via South Simon Street off of East Lima Avenue, to South Park Drive.

We issue boil advisories when the pressure in a water main line drops below acceptable measurements.

Boil advisories remain in place until we receive lab test results that indicate the water main line is back within acceptable measurements.  Residents will be notified when the boil advisory has been lifted.  Updates will also be listed on the Village website and Facebook page.

DRINKING WATER WARNING BOIL YOUR WATER BEFORE USING The Ada Water System has experienced a water line break with loss of pressure in your section of water main.

As a precautionary measure we are asking customers to boil water before using for consumption. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this problem.

This warning is in effect for the following residents ATTN: Residents at 221 East University, 510 South Simon, 515 South Simon, 516 South Simon, 517 South Simon, 520 South Simon, 521 South Simon, 525 South Simon, 600 South Simon, 605 South Simon, 615 South Simon, 617 South Simon and 625 South Simon Street

What does this mean? What should I do?
DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for three minutes, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.

Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

• Water main breaks resulting in a loss of system pressure can introduce disease-causing organisms into the water system. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches.

The symptoms above are not caused only by organisms in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice.

• People with severely compromised immune systems, infants, and some elderly may be at increased risk. These people should seek advice from their health care providers about drinking water.

What is being done?
When the water main has been repaired, bacteriological tests will be conducted throughout the depressurized portions of the water system. The boil advisory will be lifted as soon as we receive negative tests verifying the water is safe.

This will take 2-4 business days for us to receive the initial test results. Customers are advised to flush their lines for 5 minutes to ensure clean and clear water is running through their system.

After a water main break sediment can be loosened and cause temporary discoloration.
