2 fatal accidents in the county within the past 24 hours

One involved two vehicles, the second was a single vehicle accident

Two fatal motor vehicle crashes have been recorded in Hardin County within 24 hours, according to the Hardin County Sheriff's office. The department provide the following details:

Two-vehicle head-on accident
At 12:22 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26, the county dispatch was notified of a two-vehicle head-on crash on County Road 75 south of Ohio Route 67W in McDonald Township, which claimed the life of Joseph R. Moore, 56, of rural Kenton.

The crash occurred when Moore’s southbound vehicle drove into the path of a northbound truck and trailer operated by Keith Elsasser, 68, of Kenton. Elsasser was not injured.

Hardin County Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by Roundhead EMS, Roundhead Fire Department, Richland Township Fire Department, BMRT EMS and the Hardin County’ coroner’s office.

Single-vehicle accident
The second crash occurred early Thursday, Aug. 27, at 4:25 a.m. Hardin dispatch received a report of a motor vehicle crash near 10677 County Road 30, Dola, in Washington Township, which claimed the life of a 17-year-old male from Dunkirk, whose identity was withheld at the time of this announcement.

Deputies report that the youth’s vehicle was travelling east on County Road 30 when it travelled off the south side of the roadway. It then returned to the roadway, travelling off the northside of the road and struck a tree.

Hardin deputies were assisted at the scene by the Multi-County Crash Investigation Team, Dunkirk Fire Department, Dunkirk EMS and the county coroner’s office.
