Private family service planned for Emma Spradlin

102-year-old Vancrest resident was from Alger

Emma J. Spradlin, 102, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020, at 8:24 a.m. surrounded by her family at Vancrest of Ada.

She was born on Feb. 27, 1918, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, to the late Morgan and Mollie (Howard) Whitaker. On Dec. 12, 1933, Emma married Frank Spradlin and he preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 2003. Frank and Emma were married for 69 years.  

 Emma moved to McGuffey when she was 7 years old and lived there until she was 99 years old and then she made her home at Vancrest of Ada. Emma had many interests.  She loved her animals especially her dogs: Snowball and Tiny; and her cats: Samantha and Tommy.  She raised canaries, parakeets and fed all the outdoor birds and squirrels.  She loved all of nature and was an avid flower gardener.  The thing Emma loved the most was going to church and singing solos.  She sang her last solo at church when she was 99 years old.   Emma was a member of the McGuffey Freewill Baptist Church.  

Surviving are her children: Ralph Spradlin of Indian Lake, Ruth Hutchinson of Alger, Robert Spradlin of McGuffey, Carol Lowery of Belle Center, Richard (Mary) Spradlin of McGuffey, Dorothy (Kelly) Puckett of Kenton and Joe (Linda) Spradlin of Reno Nevada; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Louise Spradlin.

Emma was preceded in death by a son, Paul Spradlin; a daughter, Helen Jane Beggs and an infant daughter, Gloria Fay Spradlin; two grandsons: Jim and Robbie Spradlin; and a granddaughter, Darlene Flowers.

Attendance will be restricted at the funeral and visitation based on space to accommodate social distancing requirements. Face coverings must be worn while attending visitation and service.

Private family services will be held with Rev. Donald Webb officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Ada.

Memorial contributions may be made to the McGuffey Freewill Baptist Church.
