Joe Rose was a 1938 graduate of Alger High School

Retired farmer celebrated his 100th birthday in May

Joe Dwight Rose, Sr., 100, passed away on Friday, Dec. 11, 2020, at 3:52 a.m. at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.  

He was born May 19, 1920 in Alger, Ohio, to the late Arnett and Eula (Houchin) Rose. Joe first married Mary Louise Losey on Nov. 24, 1940, and she died on Nov. 8, 1986. Joe then married Dorothy J. Rose on Aug. 19, 1988 and she died Jan. 11, 2018.  

Joe was a farmer.  He was a member of the Lima Baptist Temple before moving to Florida. He was a 1938 graduate of Alger High School.

Surviving is a daughter: Patricia (Joe) Saltzman of Ada; 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters: June A. Richardson and Betty Jean Richardson.  

He was preceded in death by a son: Joe Dwight Rose: two daughters, Sharon L. Jones and Priscilla Wyss; and two brothers, James D. Rose and Jack D. Rose.

It was Joe’s wish to be cremated. Private family services will be held at a later date.  Burial of ashes will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
