French police major talks about Afghanistan experience

Visiting French Major LeBlanc of the National Gendarmerie, French Armed Forces, talked about policing in France and fighting corruption in Afghanistan, to a attentive audience of over 50 persons on June 26.

His talk was during Tuesday’s Ada Rotary Club meeting at The Inn at ONU. Also attending were members of the Ada Kiwanis, Ada police and interested Ada residents. LeBlanc and Ada Police Chief Mike Harnishfeger have been friends for several years.

Telling about his Afghanistan experience, the major said his tour there was to demonstrate to the Afghan people and to the international community that high-level public corruption will not be tolerated.

"You may call me Inspector Jacques Clouseau"

"You may call me Inspector Jacques Clouseau of the Pink Panther,"  insisted visiting Major LeBlanc, who spoke at a combined Ada Rotary-Kiwannis meeting on June 26 at The Inn at ONU.

He said this, speaking in a French accent. In fact, he started out his talk in French, switching to English - as an obvious joke. His opening lines broke the ice as he related his friendship with Mike Harnishfeger, Ada police chief.

LeBlanc talked about his one and one-half year experience in Afganistan. A video showing several Ada gifts being presented to the major are at the bottom of this story.

A story on the top of the home page includes the substance of his talk.

ONU's Baja SAE team notches top-five finish at Wisconsin

The Ohio Northern University Baja SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) team finished fifth overall at Baja SAE Wisconsin 2012, held June 7-10 at the MGA Research Corporation Proving Grounds in Burlington, Wis.

The event featured 95 colleges and universities and was sponsored by the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

“We are ecstatic with a fifth place finish in Wisconsin. With the large amount of teams attending and the amount of talent there, this was by far one of the toughest competitions we have attended,” said Sean Rutt, a junior mechanical engineering major from Apple Creek, Ohio, and member of the ONU Baja SAE team.
