Northern's Hannah Irmer receives OAC volleyball honors

Here’s an update on Ohio Northern University volleyball, playing this spring.
Junior Hannah Irmer (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of March 16-22.

She had 76 digs, six aces and 15 assists in four road matches last week.

Irmer had a career-high 29 digs in a 5-set victory over Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday after posting 14 digs in the opening match that night.

She then had 17 and 16 digs in two losses at No. 25 Muskingum on Friday night.

ONU vs. Wilmington
The No. 22-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball team swept a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference matches from Wilmington on Tuesday night at the ONU Sports Center.

Junior Melina Woods (Ada) and senior Hope Williamson (Noblesville, Ind./Heritage Christian) led a strong offensive attack for the Polar Bears (6-2 overall, 6-2 OAC).

Woods hit .355 with 16 kills and five errors on 31 attacks and Williamson hit .667 with 12 kills on 18 attacks for ONU.

Victoria Long had eight kills in the two matches for the Quakers (0-8, 0-8).

Ohio Northern won the opener 25-12, 25-13, 25-9 behind 13 kills from Woods, six (on eight attempts) from Williamson and six from freshman Sydney Eggleton (Southfield, Mich./Farmington).

Northern hit .377 on 39 kills with 10 errors on 77 attempts, while Wilmington hit -.038 on 15 kills and 18 errors on 79 attempts.

Junior setter Kiki Carle (Cincinnati/Mother of Mercy) had seven kills and 30 assists to lead ONU in the second match, a 25-16, 25-18, 25-4 victory.

ONU hit .361 with 39 kills, nine errors and 83 attempts. WC hit -.023 with 18 kills and 20 errors on 88 attacks.

ONU vs. Muskingum
Ohio Northern dropped a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball matches at No. 25 Muskingum in battle of league unbeatens on Friday night at the Steele Center.

The Polar Bears move to 4-2 overall and 4-2 in the OAC, while the Muskies are now 6-0, 6-0.

MU won the opening match 25-17, 21-25, 26-24, 25-18 and swept the second set 25-14, 25-12, 25-12.

In the opening match, junior Melina Woods (Ada) had 10 kills and freshman Sydney Eggleton (Southfield, Mich./Farmington) and nine kills for ONU.

Muskingum was led by Maddie McGee with 13 kills.

MU won the opening set 25-17 and the Polar Bears answered with a 25-21 win in set two.

ONU led 22-20 in set three, but the Muskies would score six of the final eight points to win 26-24.

Muskingum then went on a 17-6 run to take a 21-11 lead in a 25-18 set four victory.

Northern hit .088 with 39 kills and 25 errors, while MU hit .148 with 50 kills and 26 errors.

In the second match, MU used a 6-0 run to take a 15-8 lead and went on to a 25-14 opening-set win.

The Muskies jumped to a 7-2 lead in set two and went on to a 25-12 win.

MU opened the third set with a 6-0 run to grab a quick 8-2 advantage. Northern battled back to within 13-10, but MU ended the set on a 12-2 run to earn the sweep.

Eggleton had nine kills to lead ONU in the second match.

Ohio Northern hit .067 with 29 kills and 20 errors, while Muskingum hit .318 with 47 kills and six errors.
