Beaschler and Spar earn all-OAC tennis honors

Zach named to second team • Isaac honorable mention

 Six members of the Ohio Northern men's tennis team were named All-Ohio Athletic Conference for 2021 in voting conducted by the league's seven head coaches.

Senior Vinh Thai (Galloway/St. Charles) and junior Andrew Cochran (Wooster) were named First Team All-Conference.

Junior Zach Beaschler (Ada) and sophomore Matt Garcia (Downers Grove, Ill/South) were named Second Team All-OAC and freshmen Kavya Desai (Bloomfield Hills, Mich) and Isaac Spar (Ada) received Honorable Mention All-League honors.

Thai went 3-2 at No. 1 singles and was 4-1 at No. 1 doubles to finish with a 7-3 record. Thai, the OAC Player of the Year in 2019, is now a three-time First Team All-OAC honoree. He is 38-24 in singles, 39-26 in doubles and is 77-40 overall in his career.

Cochran was 4-2 at No. 2 singles and joined Beaschler to go 4-2 in doubles play. In three seasons at ONU, Cochran is 30-14 in singles, 25-15 in doubles and is 55-29 overall.

Beaschler was 5-1 at No. 3 singles and led the team with a 9-3 overall record. He was named Honorable Mention All-OAC as a freshman in 2019. In three seasons as a Polar Bear, Beaschler is 24-17 in singles, 29-13 in doubles and 53-30 overall.

Garcia was 5-1 at No. 1 doubles and 2-1 in singles action for a 7-2 overall record. He is 5-3 in singles, 14-7 in doubles and 19-10 in his career.

Desai was 4-2, playing primarily at No. 4, and was 4-0 in doubles for an 8-2 overall mark in his rookie year at ONU.

Spar was a perfect 5-0 in singles (3-0 at No. 5 and 2-0 at No. 6) and was 2-1 at No. 3 doubles to finish 7-1 in his first season.

The Polar Bears finished their season with a 4-3 overall record and were third in the OAC with a 4-2 mark under fifth-year head coach Mike Bonnell.
