By Cort Reynolds

The host Ada boys soccer team eliminated Elmore Woodmore in the Div. III sectional semifinals 5-2 on a warm Wednesday evening, October 20, at War Memorial Stadium.

Ada, seeded sixth, improved to 7-7-3 with its third straight win.

Ninth-seeded Woodmore finishes its season 3-12-2 following the loss.

  • Junior striker Carter Conley booted three goals to lead the Bulldogs to the win.
  • Junior defender Brendan Jameson netted a goal, while sophomore Drew Long converted a penalty kick to tally the other Bulldog scores.
  • Senior Isaac Williams and junior Ethan Murphy dished out one assist apiece.
  • Sophomore keeper Colton Long was credited with seven saves in goal.

With the 5-2 win, the Ada boys advance to play in second round sectional action at fifth-seeded Cory-Rawson (7-6-3) Saturday, October 23 at 4 p.m.

The Bulldogs defeated C-R 4-1 in Ada on September 22. Conley and freshman Logan Jolliff each tallied two goals to lead Ada over the Hornets.

The Bulldogs are 4-3-2 on the road this season.

The winner of the Ada/C-R match advances to the district semifinals at Tiffin Columbian Wednesday, October 27 at 5 p.m., probably against Northwest Conference champion Bluffton (11-3-2).

Top-seeded Bluffton received a first round bye and will host 12th seed Old Fort Saturday afternoon.

The state-ranked Pirates beat the Bulldogs 8-2 Sept. 28 as Conley netted both Ada goals.

Van Buren (11-2-2) is the number two seed and hosts eight seed Pemberville Eastwood in round two Saturday.

DIv. III 2014 state champion Mansfield Christian (9-5-2) is seeded third, while defending district champion Riverdale (6-7-4) was voted fourth.

The Falcons beat Willard 5-1 in their first round match Wednesday, and play next at Mansfield Saturday afternoon.

The district final at Tiffin's Frost-Kalnow Stadium is Saturday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. If the seeds hold according to form, Bluffton would play Van Buren.

The Pirates won at VB by a 3-1 count Sept. 14.

In 2020, Riverdale upset previously-unbeaten Bluffton 1-0 in the district finals in a chilly Halloween match. The Pirates, the Div. III 2019 state runner-up, were ranked second in the state at the time and first in northwest Ohio.
