Ada girls cold at Crestview; Knight Gregory scores 43

Playing their first game in ten days, the visiting Ada High School girls basketball team succumbed to a Lady Knight’s career-high outburst and lost at Crestview 72-31 in a Northwest Conference contest Thursday night, January 27.

Lady Knight sharpshooter Cali Gregory poured in a career-high 43 points to pace the victors. She drilled 15 of 22 shots from the field, including eight of 12 launches from beyond the arc. She also canned all five of her foul shots and added eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Gregory drained three treys and scored 11 points in the opening stanza alone.

Ada fell behind 20-9 after one period and trailed 40-16 at halftime.

Gregory stayed hot with 10 points and a pair of triples in the second period. In the third quarter, she poured in 15 more points and hit two trifectas. In the final stanza, she scored seven more points to total 43. She sank seven of 10 shots inside the arc.

Crestview outscored Ada 32-15 in the second half.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 5-12 and 0-6 in the NWC with the defeat. The Lady Knights improved to 14-4 and 5-2 in the NWC with the victory.

Bulldog junior guard Courtney Sumner led Ada with 16 points, while Daicy Robinson added eight markers. Katie Sizemore hit both of her shots to score four points.

Brynn Putnam scored nine points and Laci McCoy added eight for Crestview. McCoy also contributed eight rebounds and five assists.

The Lady Bulldogs canned 12 of 43 field goal tries (27 percent), sinking 10 of 32 two-pointers and two of 11 treys (18 percent). Ada connected on five of its eight attempts from the charity stripe (63 percent). 

The Knight girls connected on 26 of 46 field goals (56 percent), hitting 17 of 32 two-pointers and sinking nine of 14 triple tries (64 percent). Crestview converted 11 of 17 free throws (64 percent). 

The Knights out-rebounded Ada, 34-14. Ada committed 16 turnovers to 11 by Crestview.

"We are looking ahead to next week," said fourth-year Ada head coach Morgan Bass. "It is a big week with three games." 

The Lady Bulldogs visit winless Calvary Christian in Bellefontaine Tuesday, February 1. 

Ada then hosts new league foe Leipsic (11-5, 3-4 NWC) on Senior Night Thursday, Feb. 3 and visits rival USV (0-18) in a makeup game Saturday, Feb. 5.
